Established in 1994, Working Sail is run by husband and wife partnership Luke and Sara Powell. Both grew up in strong maritime environments and spent much of their childhood's living and sailing on their family's wooden sailing vessels, Luke in Greece and Sara in the colder climes of north west Ireland. Luke has been building and restoring wooden sailing craft for twenty-five years, beginning with an apprenticeship on the east coast of England working on Thames sailing barges. Sara took her interests to Exeter University where she completed an MA in maritime history, writing her thesis on the pilot cutters of the Isles of Scilly. She is currently involved in researching for her PhD on the pilot cutters of the Southwest of England.
