Unity was built by Jon Bray between 2013- 2016 at Gweek Quay Boat Yard in Cornwall.

The hull is based on a South Cornwall fishing boat, with the rig, deck and interior layout an amalgam of Jon’s favourite boats with some of his own ideas.

She has full length Scottish larch planking on English oak frames all sawn from natural bends, bronze fastened throughout, with a lead ballast keel which was cast over a wood fire in the Boatyard. All the metalwork was made by a local blacksmith and the interior joinery made from pitch-pine re-sawn from old warehouse beams.

She was launched in 2016 ten days before the 4 yearly Brest Festival of the Sea, and, after a quick blast around Falmouth Bay to check everything was working properly, she made the crossing across The Channel to the Island of Ushant. Since then, she has spent a few weeks each summer cruising and attending traditional boat festivals both here in Cornwall and across the Channel in France. Jon’s growing family preclude against longer voyages for now and so, for a while, she has to earn her keep.
